Introduction
cancerderect.ro is a non-commercial informational site dedicated to rectal cancer patients. We respect the privacy of our visitors and are committed to protecting personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
We have no user accounts and do not collect names, email addresses or other personal data through forms. The only data collected is via Google Analytics, and only with your consent.
What cookies we use
We exclusively use Google Analytics cookies to understand how the site is used:

These cookies are classified as analytics/performance cookies. They are not advertising cookies and do not track you across other sites.
In addition to cookies, we use localStorage (local browser storage) to remember your choice regarding cookies. This is not a cookie and is not transmitted to any server.
Why we use Google Analytics
Google Analytics helps us:
- Understand which pages are most useful to patients
- Identify content that needs improvement
- Know the overall number of visitors
- Optimize the browsing experience
IP anonymization is enabled — your IP address is truncated before being processed. We cannot identify individual visitors.
Your consent
On your first visit to the site, you will see a consent banner with two options:
- Accept — Google Analytics cookies are enabled and help us improve the site
- Refuse — no analytics cookies are placed; the site works normally without them
Your choice is saved in your browser (localStorage) and the banner will not appear again on subsequent visits.
To change your choice: clear the site data from your browser settings (or delete localStorage for cancerderect.ro). On your next visit, the banner will appear again.
Your GDPR rights
Under European law, you have the following rights:

- Right to rectification — to correct inaccurate data
- Right to erasure — to request deletion of data
- Right to portability — to receive your data in a structured format
- Right to object — to refuse data processing
Because we only collect anonymized data via Google Analytics, we cannot identify the data of an individual visitor. By refusing cookies through the consent banner, no data is collected.
Data sharing
Analytics data is processed by Google LLC in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy. We do not share data with any other third parties.
Post-operative journal — local data in the browser
The /journal/ page is a client-side application that allows patients to log daily symptoms (stools, pain, energy, incontinence, medication, notes). This data is:
- Stored exclusively in your browser (
localStorage) - NOT sent anywhere — it does not reach us, Google Analytics or any other third party
- NOT accessible to other sites (per-domain isolation enforced by the browser)
- Persists only on this device and in this browser — does not sync across devices
What happens to journal data
- If you clear your browser history (cookies + site data), the data is permanently lost
- If you use another device or browser, the data is not available there
- For safety, export the PDF periodically from the journal page
- You can delete all data at any time via the “Delete all” button on the journal page
Medical calculators
The LARS, POLARS, Wexner, Constipation and Bristol calculators work similarly — data you enter (questionnaire answers, age, etc.) is processed only in the browser to compute the score. No data is sent to any server. The generated PDF is created locally in your browser (using the jsPDF library).

This policy may be updated periodically. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page. We recommend that you check this page occasionally.
